The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book: Protect Yourself and Your Family from Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Allergies – and More
Product Description
The connection between inflammation and heart disease, arthritis, and other chronic ailments has become increasingly clear. Many food allergies and poor dietary choices overstimulate the immune system and cause inflammatory responses that erode the body’s wellness and pave the path for ill health. Based on her naturopathic practice, Jessica Black has devised a complete program for how to eat and cook to minimize and even prevent inflammation and its consequences. The first part of the book explains the benefits of the anti-inflammatory diet with an accessible discussion of the science behind it. The second half contains 108 recipes. The author offers many substitution suggestions and includes a healthy ingredient tip with each recipe. Most of the dishes can be prepared quickly and easily by even novice cooks. A week of sample menus for summer months and another for winter are included, as well as a substitutions chart, allowing readers to modify their favorite recipes to increase their healing potential.

I was thinking this one book would be a good source for the real deal on anti-inflammatory foods. Instead it is more about the recipes the author uses at home to cook for her family. With such onliners as how she uses one of her old medical books as a press to squeeze water from some vegetable, the reader gets the impression someone is trying real hard to impress. This recipe book is a disappointment and so is the discussion about what makes anti-inflamatory foods work. The author states that her recipes are the “exteme” of what makes for an anti-inflammatory diet; I don’t think so unless she means using organic butter which is not even a food. If you suffer from arthritis or have other inflammatory problems, save your money and look elsewhere for what makes up the real anti-inflammatory diet.

I’ve been reading a lot about the anti inflammation diet as an excellent way to prevent all that horrible cancer, heart disease and diabetes type stuff, so I thought ‘yep. That’s for me’. I bought The Anti Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book by Jessica K Black N.D. Well, what a let down. I was hoping for a book that bridged the gap between normal eating and saintly abstinence but this book was a disapointment. There were no pictures of any of the recipes because the food was so hideously unappetising that photographs would merely confirm one’s worst suspicions and put you off entirely.

If the future is all quinoa, steamed vege and mung beans then I’d prefer to die young with a great big chocolaty smile all over my face. (not really) This is a book for hard core health freaks who detox at the drop of a hat and think nothing of removing 90% of normal food stuffs from their diet. If you have fussy kids, I do, the recipe suggestions are laughably impossible.

Only the first 53 pages of 227 pages discuss inflammation. The rest are recipes. The first part has no diagrams showing how inflammation acts on the body. I was disappointed in the book. It seems mostly a book of recipes. Also, the book has recipes for fatty and cholesterol rich animal foods which are know not to be heart healthy. I think that there are better and slightly more academic books out there that may be a better buy if someone wants to get into more depth on subject.

This book has very good info regarding a number of illnesses or conditions (arthritis) which respond to food intake. It has many recipes based on the various needs. The book I ordered is in excellent condition and came quickly. I would recommend this seller and book.

This book not only has great natural recipes but it gives you great insight into eating for your health. I loved her first edition and this book is a great extention of the first. I am giving everyone in my family a copy of this book for Christmas. It is a great way for me to help take care of my family and let them know I care about them. Eat right and you won’t have to worry about the side effect disclaimer on the pill bottle. Thanks Dr. Jessica for everything your great.
