Arthritis Diagnosis

If you are experiencing the pain of arthritis, you have probably tried some of the over-the-counter remedies available at the drug store.  If pain persists, the next stop is usually a visit to the doctor’s office.  Normally, your doctor may use one of two more common treatments; cortisone injections, or an anti-inflammatory medication known as NSAID.

A cortisone shot can provide temporary relief in many cases and usually will have few side effects. However, repeated cortisone injections can cause a weakening of the tendons, which is one reason most doctors put a limit on the number of injections a patient can have. Also, if there is no noticeable improvement in pain control, there is little use of continuing that type of treatment.

Another well-known treatment given, involves trying a prescription for one of the NSAID type of drugs. These are well advertised and you’ve undoubtedly seen many TV ads for them. The ads always show a return to an active and happy lifestyle for the people taking them. What they don’t show though, are the horrible results of the many side effects these drugs have. While the advertisers are legally obligated to mention these side effects, the ads of course, still put a positive spin on the so-called benefits of those medications.

NSAIDs are really something to be afraid of. While they can reduce pain, arthritis drugs side effects are something you need to consider before taking them. Let’s take a look at some of those side effects:

The most common side effects of NSAIDs are vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, drowsiness and headache. They also can cause fluid retention, which may cause edema.

More serious and potentially deadly side effects are kidney and liver failure, ulcers, internal bleeding, shortness of breath, perforation of the stomach or intestines, increased risk of fatal heart attack or stroke and increase in blood pressure.

Also, these drugs can interact with other medications you may be taking. For instance, if you’re taking the blood thinner Coumadin, NSAIDs decrease the ability of the blood to clot, so you’re at a much greater risk of internal bleeding.

While these dangerous side effects apply to everyone, seniors are more at risk and more likely to suffer the worst effects.

And, after facing all of these scary side effects, these treatments do absolutely nothing to improve your condition. These medications treat only the symptoms- not the underlying problem. So, your condition keeps getting worse as you take them.

If you are considering using one of the NSAID drugs, take another look at all the listed side effects and start to look for a natural joint relief supplement instead. By using a good, natural supplement, you can actually experience cartilage regrowth, while avoiding all those wicked side effects.
