Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a type of inflammatory arthritis, is an autoimmune disease, in which the body’s immune system improperly identifies the synovial membrane as foreign and, as such, inflammation results, damaging cartilage and tissue around the joints. Often, the bone surfaces are destroyed as well. Joints affected by rheumatoid arthritis include the hands, knees, wrists, and feet.

Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) include:

It affects about 2.1 million Americans and roughly 75% of them are females. In addition, it frequently occurs in people under forty five and when the disorder occurs in children under sixteen years old, it is known as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. You need to find a reputable Rheumatologist that can evaluate your case. In the meantime you can take 800mg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hours as needed if you are not allergic to ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). There are many treatment options available but you’ll need an evaluation from a Rheumatologist first. Rheumatologists specialize in arthritis and other rheumatic disorders.
